For the benefit of our newer advisors and a refresher for all advisors, here is how the grants work:
Each year chapters work to achieve certain milestones in order to be eligible for CA DECA chapter grant funding through the California Department of Education. CA DECA Grants are special grant funds specifically set aside for the Benefit of Career & Technical Student Organizations including DECA. There are two kinds of grants chapters can receive. 1. New Chapter Starter Grants (these are one time grants only available to new chapters). 2. Chapter Support Grants (these are grants for existing chapters who meet the required milestones). New chapter grants are available to new chapters who meet certain minimum milestones as laid out in the attached document. Chapter support grants are a little trickier. Chapters receive grants in subsequent years for the milestones they meet in previous years. For example; chapters will receive chapter support grants during the 2019-2020 school year (this year) for the milestones they met in the 2018-2019 school year (last year). CA DECA chapter grant funds are only available to DECA chapters at public high schools who meet the new CTE Requirements in the State of California (including charter schools). Private schools are not eligible for CA DECA chapter grant funds.

2018-2019 CA DECA Chapter Grant Funds
We are in the early stages of the fund allocation process. Once that process is finalized the funds will be distributed directly to chapters. We cannot hold them on account. They must be issued to your chapter via check. All chapters receiving grant funds for work done in the 2018-2019 school year will receive notification of the amount of grant they have earned and the timing of the receipt of those funds once we have finalized the transfer of the funds to CA DECA from the Department of Education (which will occur later this Fall). New chapters starting this year are eligible for chapter starter grant funds and will be notified of the amount of those funds and their availability as they work their way through the startup process.
In order to access those funds you MUST complete the online forms referenced in the attached guidelines. That is the only way to receive your funds. Complete the forms in their entirety and submit them. You can do this NOW to expedite the receipt of funds once they become available.
Chapter Grant Fund Deadline
All requests (via the online forms referenced in the attached documents) must be submitted by November 1, 2019. This is a firm deadline. Any chapter that misses this deadline will miss out on this year’s Chapter Grant Funds.
Use of Grant Fund Requirements
We’ve received a number of inquiries from chapters on how CA DECA funds can/cannot be used. The attached document is intended to assist your chapter in using the funds according to the allowable uses outlined by the Department of Education. All chapters receiving funds must read the attached document and follow up accordingly. Each chapter is responsible for documenting and maintaining supporting documentation indicating that the funds were used for allowable uses.
